The top of California Street just before sunrise on a full moon
morning in March, J's forty-first birthday. What a perfect present.
he had been trying to crystallize this shot for over a year and
had been close several times but never had all the elements line
up. But on this morning magic was in the air. He raced the truck
through the canyons of the financial district, pulled quickly
to the curb, grabbed the sticks out of the back bed and ran up
California, puffing hard. Just a few minutes before the sun broke
the horizon, the moon slid perfectly into position and the cable
car crested the hill, putting a true San Francisco touch to the
moment.
